This fucking dick and his brother. On the R train about two hours ago a girl with a book bag sat down between these two guys, one of them moved over for her, but the other made an annoyed face and goes, “did you have to sit like that?!” and the girl just smiled. So he called her a dyke. She rolled her eyes at him and was like, “ok buddy” and he started in on her appearance. Talking shit about her short hair and baggy jeans, calling her a dyke. Then his fucking twin brother (you guys they were dressed alike and easily 40) piped up with, “oh come on, leave HIM alone!” and they both laughed, so I said (because I never did learn to keep my mouth shut) “what the fuck is your problem! Leave her alone” Then they both turned around to me and the one standing up said, “what’s your problem little girl? Mind your fucking business!” so I said, “why don’t you? Stop fucking with her!” at which point the seated brother turned from harassing the girl and started harassing me. He called me fat, ugly, a dyke, and a stupid dyke bitch. Then he told me that my septum ring made me look unfeminine. I stood up and said, “do you think this hurts my fucking feelings? You think I’ve never been called a fucking dyke before!” and my cousin, who was right next to me said, “why do you need to harass her?!” While he was yelling at me the other brother went back to yelling at the girl. He said she had short hair because she had something to prove, and that we could all see she was just a fat dyke. This went on until they got off the train at 49th. As they were leaving the car the one that had been standing said he would kill us and the one that had been sitting said, “you’re a dyke and you’re a dyke and birds of feather!! Bitches!”
After they left, a large man who didn’t make eye contact said, “oh are you all ok?” a lot of fucking help you were when we needed you.

I hate the bit of concerned “everything ok?” almost as much as men who do the harassing. If you’re happy to stay silent and allow the abuse to happen you have no business looking at me with those sad eyes like we just went through something bad together.

The Ali Forney Center, the largest and most comprehensive LGBT homeless youth organization in the country, suffered a major lose due to Hurricane Sandy. Their drop-in center, which is a lifeline to kids who live on the streets, was destroyed. Below is a letter from their executive director, Carl Siciliano, detailing the situation and how you can help. (Hint: they really need your money.)

This organization is near and dear to my heart, I’m on the Board of Directors and have produced The Broadway Beauty Pageant for them for many years. Please give what you can to this very important cause.

Dear Friends,

Yesterday we were finally able to inspect our drop-in center in Chelsea, half a block from the Hudson River. Our worst fears were realized; everything was destroyed and the space is uninhabitable. The water level went four feet high, destroying our phones, computers, refrigerator, food and supplies.

This is a terrible tragedy for the homeless LGBT youth we serve there. This space was dedicated to our most vulnerable kids, the thousands stranded on the streets without shelter, and was a place where they received food, showers, clothing, medical care, HIV testing and treatment, and mental health and substance abuse services. Basically a lifeline for LGBT kids whose lives are in danger.

We are currently scrambling for a plan to provide care to these desperate kids while we prepare to ultimately move into a larger space that will better meet our needs. The NYC LGBT Center has very kindly and generously offered to let us temporarily use some of their space, and we hope to determine the viability of that on Monday.

We have been deluged with kind offers from people who wish to volunteer and donate goods. Unfortunately, we will have to provide our services in the time being in much smaller spaces that won’t accommodate volunteers or allow for much storage space. The best way people can reach out to help in this very challenging time is by making monetary donations. Please go to our website at www.aliforneycenter.org/hurricanesandy

It is heartbreaking to see this space come to such a sad end. For the past seven years it has been a place of refuge to thousands of kids reeling from being thrown away by their parents for being LGBT. For many of these kids coming to our drop-in center provided  their first encounter with a loving and affirming LGBT community. I thank all of you for your care and support in a most difficult time.

- Carl Siciliano

Can we for a second talk about how badly the economic crisis hit resources for LGBT YOC? And now this. There are no safe beds or places for QTYOC to go in NYC. Please donate and do what you can. It breaks my heart to know that one of the few places that QTYOC can go and feel safe was destroyed. :(

Pro-Muslim Subway Ads to Hang Near Anti-Jihad Ads

Striking back against an anti-jihad advertisement in the subways widely perceived as anti-Muslim, two religious groups – one Jewish, one Christian – are taking out subway ads of their own to urge tolerance.

Rabbis for Human Rights – North America and the group Sojourners, led by the Christian author and social-justice advocate Jim Wallis, are unveiling their campaigns on Monday. Their ads will be placed near the anti-jihad ads in the same Manhattan subway stations, leaders of both groups said and transit officials confirmed. The groups said their campaigns were coincidental.

The ad by Rabbis for Human Rights turns the language of the earlier ad, placed by a pro-Israel group, on its head. The original ad says, “In any war between the civilized man and the savage, support the civilized man. Support Israel. Defeat jihad.” The ad by Rabbis for Human Rights says, “In the choice between love and hate, choose love. Help stop bigotry against our Muslim neighbors.”

“We wanted to make it clear that it is in response to the anti-Islam ad,” said Rabbi Jill Jacobs, executive director of Rabbis for Human Rights, whose members include rabbis from all streams of Judaism.

The Sojourners ad simply says, “Love your Muslim neighbors.”

Another Christian group, United Methodist Women, an affiliate of the United Methodist Church, has placed similar ads in the same 10 Manhattan stations where the anti-jihad appears. The ads, which went up on Wednesday, say, “Hate speech is not civilized. Support peace in word and deed.”

One of the Methodist group’s ads, in Times Square station, is posted right next to one of the anti-jihad ads.

He has repeatedly harassed several women on tumblr by going through their blogs and reblogging their posts when they’ve told him repeatedly to leave them alone. He then refuses to take down their photos, even when they ask him to, and even when the girls are underage. Tumblr refuses to do anything about it. And I say fuck that. I will protect myseld and other women from this creep since no one else will.

I am currently homeless in NYC and my bed is provided for by the Ali Forney Center. If Mayor Bloomberg’s budget goes through, there is a good chance that I will end up back on the street or into a shelter where I’m likely to face constant harassment and probably violence. (That is not a hypothetical, I know a lot of people who have been attacked in city shelters.)

If you have a problem with a billionaire like Michael Bloomberg forcing LGBT youth like me out of safe shelters and onto the street, you can let him know here.

If you want to donate to or volunteer at AFC and help homeless LGBT youth, you can do so here.

Don’t let New York City’s billionaire mayor get a way with this. I will provide details on the planned protests of Bloomberg’s budget by AFC as I get then.

and people wonder why we don’t like bloomberg one itty bitty bit

ALL THE MOTHER FUCKING AWARDS TO THIS REPORTER.

Holy shit I cannot even believe they aired this. ldkjk;lsakd I’m just in shock right now.

Ask yourself exactly what it means when you’re shocked as most people are that they aired this. Think about that for a minute. Do we really have freedom of speech?

Everyone needs to watch this. at the very least, support the protesters, even if it’s just signal boosting.

i cannot believe this actually aired.

I just want to reiterate, the fact that people are surprised that this was aired is a sad commentary on the state of our media. Sure, we still have free press under the law, but not under the companies that own these news outlets. I miss the days of REAL journalism.

I’ve seen a lot of those individual clips through tumblr, but watching them strung together with a public someone condemning the police brutality makes it more poignant for me. I want every reporter in America to report on Occupy Wall Street and police brutality everywhere, Wall Street and not. These cavalier and nonchalant violent displays of power sicken me and make me want to be violent myself. Consciously though, if I were ever in a situation like that, I would hope to remain peaceful and that I was being filmed.

I hated cops on instinct growing up. Then I met some and I disliked them with reason while still hating on instinct. Then I saw videos and heard stories of police brutality and I feel like a volcano. This type of behavior is despicable, disgusting, and fucking wrong.

I don’t know if you guys can see that well but those are the red marks on my wrists for being handcuffed for three straight hours today, with my hands twisted unnaturally behind my back.
I decided to go to the wall street occupation in NYC and…
-was maced in the face while standing on a public sidewalk calmly asking an officer if I could continue walking.
-was forcefully arrested (arms pulled behind my back by two police officers then lifted off the ground and dragged to a nearby wall) while being treated for the mace on my skin
-had my requests for information (whether I was being arrested or simply detained, why I was being arrested, whether they could read me my rights) greeted with silence by a wall of policemen standing with their nets, watching us sit there handcuffed.
-was bused, as the cuffs got tighter and tighter, to police headquarters (along with about 80 other peaceful protesters) and made to wait in the van outside headquarters for another two and a half hours
-was detained inside a prison cell for about another 6 hours, again with barely any information about why I was arrested and for how long
-was told I could have a phone call but only if it was to a New York number, and then was subsequently ignored when I asked if I could use a phone book
-was finally released with a charge of disorderly conduct and a court date nov 3
Right now I’m overwhelmed and exhausted. I missed the last train back to sarah lawrence because of being in fucking jail, so I’m staying at my friend’s dorm at parsons. I had just about every right I “have” violated tonight and it makes me really angry. when the police feel the need to use the amount of force they did on me - i’m 93 lbs and 4 ft - you know something’s off. when they’re detaining the “granny peace brigade” along with me, you know there’s really something off. this isn’t right, this isn’t democracy. that’s all I can say right now because I’m so fucking tired and I need to just go to bed. perhaps I’ll have some more coherent thoughts tomorrow, but again, right now I’m just totally overwhelmed.

I was fucking pissed off when I heard about this, but then I saw the video footage of you being maced and I almost cried. What. The. Fuck. Where did all of this country’s justice go?

BASTARDS! I hope you’re feeling better now. I seriously hate how some policemen just think they can pretty much do what they want with the weapons they’ve got. Are we supposed to feel safe around them? Because I don’t think we do anymore.

I love how Westboro can do whatever the fuck they want, and people can protest abortion clinics all the fucking time, but peacefully protest Wall Street and police brutality is everywhere. I just get more and more ashamed of my country as the days go on.

These stories need to be told. People need to listen. This isn’t okay.

Reblog. This is more important than a pretty dress you want or a pretty picture. This is about your future and your children’s future.

I am throwing up at how disgusting this is. CEOs get to fuck over anyone they want, religious organizations are allowed to lie to their followers and encourage sexism and racism and preach against science and reason, but people who actually give a shit and protest peacefully are treated with violence? I am so fucking sick of this country.

And people wonder why I’m terrified by police even though I’m not doing anything wrong or illegal.
